Charity Cup 2012
Congratulations to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society Upstate NY Chapter for winning the Charity Cup and a $10,000 donatation!
The charities selected to participate this year:
1. National Multiple Sclerosis Society Upstate New York Chapter- $10,000 and Charity Cup Winner
2. Victim Resource Center of the Finger Lakes, Inc.-$6,000
3. Foodlink, Inc- $5,000
4. Make-A-Wish of Western NY (Rochester Region)- $4,000
5. Veterans Outreach Center- $3,000
6. The Society for the Protection and Care of Children (SPCC)- $2,000
Eligibility:
A Charity Cup Selection Committee reviewed all applicatons submitted and chose the six not-for-profits listed above to participate in the 2012 Charity Cup Event on September 29. At least two not-for-profit agencies have causes related to children. The committee also looked to include at least one Ontario County based not-for-profit organization.
All organizations affiliated with Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack are not eligible to participate. Affiliation includes, but is not limited to, employees, representatives and members of their households from Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack or companies currently doing business with Finger Lakes; and board members or paid staff members of not-for-profits that are currently doing business with Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack.
Any agency considering participating in the Charity Cup must have a 501(c)3 status. Documentation of status must be provided upon request.
Review Criteria:
Selection of participating not-for-profits is based upon the services provided by the agency and it meeting eligibility requirements, in addition to overall demonstrated need and potential impact of program to be supported/created. Other factors considered in final selections were the total number of people impacted in relation to size and total operating budget of the organization.
Applications are reviewed by the Charity Cup Selection Committee comprised of Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack's management and employees. Finger Lakes Casino & Racetrack reserves the right to review applications based on their interpretation of merit and all decisions are considered final.

A Fun Filled Day:
On the day of the event, representatives from each of the six selected charities will participate in a handicapping-style challenge. Each group will be asked to select a horse in various races and earn points based on how that horse finishes. Not a horse racing expert? No problem! Staff will be available to help guide each charity through the process. In the end, the charity that earns the most points will take home the Cup and the top award of $10,000! There will also be awards for $6,000, $5,000, $4,000, $3,000, and $2,000! In addtion, each charity will be provided booth space on the day of the event to display information about their cause.
